WOOD
Teak / KAYU JATI
Teak is a wood indigenous to Bali. It is used to make furniture and is so strong that it was also used for shipbuilding a long time ago. It is very resistant to water and insects too. As my husband is a woodworker, all the wooden goods are created by him at a small atelier in our house. The atelier was started with only one craftsman, but now has several village people working there. Employing people who wouldn't normally have a job to help with our work is something like a repayment for the kindness we have received, and it makes us feel good about our everyday life in the village. The wooden goods are born against the background of the laughter of the Balinese workers, who enjoy joking, and the sound of wooden hammers. |
